During a packed rally in Texas, former President Donald Trump reignited one of his signature campaign promises: strict immigration reform. Speaking to thousands of supporters in a stadium draped with American flags and “Make America Great Again” banners, Trump outlined his vision for a “stronger, safer America.”

“We’re going to shut the border, end the chaos, and take back control,” Trump declared, receiving thunderous applause from the crowd. He promised to reinstate policies from his first term, including the ‘Remain in Mexico’ program, increased funding for border wall construction, and expedited deportations of undocumented immigrants.

Trump also criticized the Biden administration’s handling of the southern border, calling it a “disaster” and blaming it for rising crime, drug trafficking, and job insecurity. He claimed that under his leadership, “illegal crossings were at their lowest,” and pledged to “end the open border nightmare on day one.”

In addition to enforcement, Trump teased a new “merit-based immigration system” to prioritize skilled workers and reduce what he described as “abuse of the asylum system.” While the speech energized his conservative base, immigration advocates and civil rights groups immediately condemned the rhetoric, calling it divisive and fear-driven.

As the 2024 election draws closer, immigration appears to be one of the defining issues of Trump’s campaign platform.
